Debbie Gibson and Devin Kelley

Debbie Gibson was a successful pop star who gained prominence in the late 80s. She continued to pursue her dream and create music even when newer artists took over the music industry. Gibson was born August 31st of 1970 on Long Island, New York City. Her ethnicity includes Italian/Sicilian German in addition to a little percentage of Russian. She was the daughter of Diane Gibson and Joseph Gibson. She also has three sisters. She took piano lessons in the company of Morton Estrin when she was an infant. Her professional career started in 1983 when she composed an original song entitled I Come From America and then sent a video of the song to WOR, as part of WOR's contest. When she was awarded the prize her mom turned her garage into a studio. D.J. listened to the demo that she had made available to radio stations from Only in My Dreams, an additional one of her original songs. The music director of Atlantic Records heard her song and was able to sign an immediate development deal. In the United States, she began the tour in order to market her single. In 1986 and 1987, she devoted the bulk of her time building up her catalog of songs while touring venues. Gibson's mom was always with her on her club dates. While she took classes, she also continued to study at Calhoun High School in Merrick New York from which she then graduated as an honor student.
